Where To Elope In Iceland In 2022 [Includes Packages]

Where To Elope In Iceland

Iceland is by far one of the best places to have an adventure elopement. With incredible landscapes & epic scenery, Iceland offers it all. Take it from an Iceland elopement photographer, these are a few of my favorite places to elope in Iceland.

Where To Elope In Iceland: Vik, Iceland In October

The Best Time Of Year To Elope In Iceland

Summer Elopements (June - Early September)

Summer is by far the busiest time of year in Iceland. Tourism sees its biggest wave, and oftentimes it can be difficult to find lodging or vehicle rentals. If eloping in Iceland during the summer, it's best to plan far in advance and avoid crowded areas. You can always go to touristy areas such as Skógafoss, but you just might not want to elope there in the summer with the large crowds.

Fall Elopements (Mid-September - Late October)

Fall is an incredible time to elope in Iceland. With fewer tourists, some of your favorite locations will have fewer crowds. While the weather is shifting into winter and can become less predictable, you'll often be met with favorable temperatures. The Iceland landscapes also begin to change colors and it's an absolutely beautiful time to elope in Iceland.

Winter Elopements (November - April)

Winter in Iceland can be quite unpredictable, but also magical. While cold, you'll be able to see the northern lights, and it's the perfect time to take advantage of the natural hot springs. Snow adventures such as exploring glaciers and snowshoeing are also at their peak!

Spring Elopements (Late April - Early June)

Spring in Iceland is absolutely beautiful. As the temperatures warm and the snow melts, you'll be greeted with vibrant colors as wildflowers begin to bloom. It's also not a very crowded time, which is a great time to elope and avoid the masses at your favorite locations.

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach Near Vik, Iceland

Eight Dreamy Elopement Locations In Iceland

Below are some of Iceland's must-see elopement & small wedding locations. While these are incredible locations to start your search, I'd suggest finding a photographer who knows the lesser-known locations. Pro Tip: Most elopement photographers will know the area and be able to help you find the perfect location for your elopement. Most of us also help with planning & mapping out the day as well!

Landmannalaugar

Landmannalaugar is one of the most unique and vibrant locations in Iceland. Located in Iceland's Southern Highlands, this geothermal hot spot is known as the 'People's Pools.' It's the perfect place to spend a day or two hiking, visiting one of the many hot springs, and of course, eloping! Just note that a 4x4 vehicle is required to reach this location.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

The Jökulsárlón Iceberg Lagoon (sometimes knowns as the Jökulsárlón Iceberg Lagoon) is a must-see Iceland location. It's perfect for couples who love a mix of the Black Sand Beaches and glaciers. Around the iceberg lagoon, you'll find an abundance of wildlife, and plenty of areas to explore during your elopement.

Westfjords

The Westfjords of Iceland is considered to be the least visited area of the country. There's absolutely no lack of views in this region though! It features an abundance of coastal views, mountains, hot springs, and beautiful coastal cliffs. It's the perfect place to elope in the summer, have an incredible adventure and still escape the crowds.

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

Iceland is known for its black sand beaches, but Reynisfjara Beach is one of the most famous. With massive cliffs & Basalt columns within a short walk, you'll have no shortage of beautiful views. The mountains surrounding the area are also incredibly accessible and perfect for a second location and backdrop to your elopement!

Vestrahorn

Vestrahorn is quickly becoming one of the most popular elopement locations in Eastern Iceland. Featuring an incredible backdrop of jagged mountains and a black sand beach, it's truly a sight to see. This elopement location is also an incredible place to see the northern lights in the winter and take advantage of the midnight sun in the summer months.

The Black Church of Budir

The Black Chuch of Budir is another highly popular Iceland elopement location. Located very close to Snæfellsjökull National Park, this location features a small, distinct, black church in the middle of a lava field. With the mountains towering in the near distance, it's truly a dreamy place to elope.

Skógafoss Waterfall

Skógafoss is one of Iceland's biggest and most beautiful waterfalls. With nearly a 200 ft vertical drop, this waterfall will make you feel minuscule in the landscape. While it is a heavily trafficked location, there are plenty of other beautiful falls, hot springs, & trails within a short hike or drive.

Kirkjufell

Kirkjufell and Kirkjufellfoss are both located just minutes apart from each other. This distinct mountain & waterfall combo can be captured at the same time, and are especially beautiful at sunset. While a crowded area, it's the perfect place to elope in the summer in the midst of the midnight sun.
