San Juan Mountains Adventure Elopement InOuray, Colorado

Tucked away in the Southwest corner of Colorado, the San Juans are truly a sight to see. High elevations, large snow capped peaks, and an abundance of wildflowers in the summer. It's known as the 'Switzerland of America' for a reason, and is the perfect place for an intimate mountain elopement. The day began mid-afternoon for Amber, Austin & I when we met at Champions Gulch. While winter conditions were still very much present, we were met with three-feet deep snow drifts leading down to the riverbed. After a few steps, and the snow only getting deeper, we pulled an audible and went to a secondary location, which turned out to be absolutely perfect.

Red Mountain Creek & The Wedding Ceremony

As we arrived at our location, we were met with a small shower from the clouds above and the golden, muddy waters of Red Mountain Creek. As we made our way down the creek-bed the showers quickly went away and left us with a beautiful scenery. After the symbolic foot wash ceremony chosen by Amber, we made use of the beautiful mountain scenery and took a beautiful collection of portraits to document the experience. We then made our way down the trail to a small body of water where Amber & Austin said their vows in a wave of emotion. As they stood at the base of the water I took photographs of the special moment and as they had their ring exchange. After their vows I left them for a few minutes to soak in the moment, as I photographed them from a distance. After their vows, we made our way up the side of the mountain to a patch of Aspens. With only the signature white trunks and minimal greenery on the forrest floor, we made some of my favorite portraits to date as they took in the moment, surrounded by the glowing trees. After making our way back down the mountain, we took a few photos on the streets of Ouray before watching the sun disappear behind the peaks.
