What Is The Average Wedding Cost In New York City

On average, couples getting married in New York City are spending between $35,000 - $50,000. Notably, this number is often higher and can range between $85,000 - $250,000 for weddings with higher levels of design, larger guest counts and multi-day experiences. However, it's worth noting that more luxurious weddings at high dollar venues such as Cipriani Wall Street, 620 Loft and Garden, New York Public Library and Weylin could easily run between $500,000 - $2 million dollars.

Notably, I'd highly suggest starting with finding one of three options first: your venue, your planner and or your photographer. Likewise, an experienced local planner will help guide your experience, giving you the insight to source and book the rest of your vendors, sometimes even your venue. However, if you find a vendor or venue you love, it's highly suggested to book them as soon as possible to ensure they are not booked elsewhere, as the NYC wedding market is busy and moves fast due to volume.

What Is The Best Month To Get Married In New York City

New York City is a great place to get married in any season. Here's what to expect within each season:

January - April: With NYC being such an indoor focused wedding venue city, this 'off season' is still an amazing time to get married in the city. Likewise, while cold, if your event is mostly (if not all indoors) you'll likely get a slightly better rate with venues.

May - August: This is when the busy season begins for weddings in New York City, Brooklyn & beyond. Notably, the weather is more favorable for outdoor weddings, especially just outside the city in more nature focused venues in Long Island, Upstate, The Catskills, etc.

September - October: This is when the colors will begin to change. Notably, you'll find lots of yellows, reds and oranges throughout the city. If looking for a time of the year when the city will truly pop on film, this is the time.

November & December: New York City around the holidays is truly incredible. Notably, the city is very alive with happenings and decor. However, this does drive demand for hotels and event spaces so plan accordingly.

As always, the best wedding venues in NYC will be determined by your specific preferences, needs and budget. Notably, if you're looking for a wedding venue outside of the city with a more nature focused environment, The Hamptons and upstate New York have a great selection of options.

I've found that most luxury weddings in New York City take place in historic, prestigious buildings. Notably, with incredible architecture and more square footage, these events are often larger in number, but also the design.

How Much Does A Wedding Photographer and Videographer Cost In New York City Cost?

On average, you can expect to spend $7500 - $14,500 for an experienced wedding photographer or videographer in New York City for full day coverage. Notably, these numbers are oftentimes due to experience & creative expertise of that particular photographer or videographer.

However, on the low end, for a photographer or videographer that is new with little experience, you can typically expect to spend between $1500-$2500 for full day coverage. On the other hand, a slightly more experienced (3-5 years) you can expect to spend $3000-$5000 for full-day coverage.

Who Are The Best New York City Wedding Planners?

Personally, I believe that New York City has one of the best selections of wedding planners in the United States. In addition, with such a big market, there are many different styles of planners to choose from as well. In most cases, you'll be able to find someone local, however with NYC being such a destination market, it's very common to have someone who lives outside of the city or the state have a strong portfolio of work within the city.
