Loveland Pass Engagement Photos
Hailing At Over 11,000 ft Amongst The Rockies, Loveland Pass Is Known As One Of The True Beauties Of Colorado – The Gateway To The West.
An Afternoon At The Dillion Reservoir
Starting the day out at the beautiful Sapphire Point, we then ventured further east to the Snake River Inlet. It’s rocky terrain and peninsula provide a stunning view of Peak One rising above the water and ridge line. As the two ran down the shore hand in hand, the sun began to slowly peak from behind the clouds. However, it’s brightness was just right – providing and illuminating factor of the golden grass.
A Laid-Back Evening At Loveland Pass
Erica & Chao’s engagement photos at Loveland Pass went much further than just the top of the mountain. I met these two down at the Dillion Reservoir, starting at Sapphire Point. After spending some time at the beautiful overlook, we then made our way down the lake to Snake River Inlet. This little pull-off happens to be one of the prettiest spots across the entire lake. It’s bay with views of the mountain range in the distance are stunning.
Loveland Pass FAQ
Getting To Loveland Pass
Loveland Pass is a very easily accessible location most times of the year. It is located just over an hour from Downtown Denver, 35 minutes from Breckenridge and 45 minutes from Vail.
From Late October – May there is always a chance of snow. The road from I-70 to the top of the pass is very windy and steep. Most importantly, there are restrictions to driving the I-70 window in the winter. Be sure you are up to speed on the laws here.
Weather At Loveland Pass
Just note, this is a high alpine location that sits at over 10,000 feet. Oftentimes, the temperatures will be at least 15-20 degrees cooler than the Front Range (Denver) in the summer, and up to 20-40 degrees cooler in the winter.
Winter storms are common, while in the summer an occasional afternoon thunderstorm can be expected. However, most mornings and evenings are clear in the summers. View weather here.
What Time Of Day To Visit For Best Light
Sunrise and sunset will always give you the best results and color for your engagement, elopement or wedding photos. While the exact time for the best light will vary with every week and month, these two windows of time will also give you smaller crowds.
This is a very popular location and for good reason. Use these time windows to your advantage to have a bit more of a ‘just us’ experience for your session.
Traffic On I-70
While on most days it’s only an hour from Downtown Denver, I-70 has been known for backups. Most prominent in the middle of the day and on weekends, this traffic can sometimes add up to 2-hours on your drive time.
To get the best results and avoid the traffic, it’s typically best to get there early for sunrise. This will give you incredible light for your photos, but also fewer people around and to beat the traffic out.
